Seattle police officer Dave Clement is back at work.
According to Clement’s GoFundMe page, he was back at work on July 19. Though, after returning from chemotherapy treatments, he was a bit tired.
July 19th – Day+36 I went back to work yesterday and actually made it through a full day. Yes, I was tired out afterwards, but it sure was great to see my co-workers. And to see how many of them didn’t recognize me.
So, the plan is to keep working “light duty”; take the prescribed medications; avoid getting sick; and get lab work occasionally. In December, we return to Northwestern Hospital for a follow-up that will consist of all the testing I had before the treatment. The results of these tests will determine whether or not the treatment was a success. Until then, we are living as if it worked. And thanking God for this gift.
Thank you,
Dave and Pam
KIRO Radio’s Ron and Don brought light to Clement’s situation in March to raise money for his treatment. Clement has a rare disease — Chronic Inflammatory Demyelinating Polyneuropathy — and the City of Seattle’s insurance would not cover the treatment for it. But with the help of local donations — totaling more than $145,000 — he was able to get treatment in Chicago. Without a stem cell transplantation and chemo therapy, Clement would certainly face paralysis.
People are still donating to the police officer’s medical fund. He has now raised more than $180,000.
