I blew my interview with Dr. Jill Stein

I admit it. My “interview” with Jill Stein was really embarrassing.

I spotted her near media row, surrounded by hundreds of reporters. She started walking to the elevators behind me, so I quickly grab my phone and mic. I ended up directly in front of her — she was touching me, bumping into me as she walked backward.

All I was thinking: How do I ask a question about Seattle? I figured, 1. She knows about the Socialist Alternative movement in Seattle and how instrumental they’ve been in shaping the national conversation and, 2. It will get some local coverage.

Then it happens. She looks at me, I make eye contact. I say I’m from Seattle and she’s ready for my question! And I kind of blew it: I was put on the spot and I asked a question that I don’t think made too much sense. I’m not a reporter, I’m a talk show host. I like to spend time prepping my line of questions so I can tell a story. But I asked (it was much worse in my head). And … she was about to answer. She started to answer, but was pulled away by her security!

I was so close.

Had she finished that sentence, everybody would have been talking about it. Dori does a 47-second interview (OK, three minutes) with Gary Johnson, and that’s what everyone’s talking about. I had Dr. Jill Stein and I couldn’t hang onto her for the end of one question. That is ridiculous. They pulled her so far, so quickly. I’m so ticked off.

That was my shot. That was my time to shine.

Maybe Don King will make an appearance at the DNC.
