Step away from the Social Security

The word has gone out that President Obama, in the name of reducing the deficit – is willing to accept a less generous formula for indexing Social Security to inflation.

As a result, the same president who’s been taking fire from the right on gun control is now under fire from the left on social security.

Outside the White House, a Democratic congressman shouted, “We did not come here to cut benefits that people rightfully earned.”

While representatives of the labor movement shouted, “Our union members are here today to ask our resident to carry out what he told us he would do when he sought our votes.”

And Democratic activists had enough too, “Any Democrat who wants to go along with a proposal like this can look forward to a primary in 2014.”

They were all saying – hands off.

But look at this – when an AARP poll asked should social security be off limits in the budget discussions, of course 85 percent of Democrats said yes.

But guess how many Republicans also said yes?

Eighty-three percent think social security should be off the table.

Apparently getting old is a bipartisan activity. It reminds me of one of my favorite country songs…

“Let whoever cuts a cent, of my entitlement going to find a big surprise election day.”

Ross: Are we killing car culture? Or is car culture killing the US?

I don’t think the question is whether we're going to "kill" our car culture. The real question is can we stop our car culture from killing the U.S.?
