Keep your eye on the Space Needle Tuesday as crews begin a
paint job.
In preparation for the landmark’s 50th Anniversary
celebration on Saturday, April 21, the Space Needle’s top
will be painted its original color: Galaxy Gold.
The Space Needle, 605 feet tall, officially opened on the
first day of the World’s Fair in 1962.
Nearly 20,000 people traveled to the top of the Space
Needle during the fair and it’s still one of Seattle’s
most popular tourist attractions.
Did you know: The ‘new’ elevators, installed in 1993, travel
at the same speed a raindrop falls to earth, 10 miles per
hour. Since a snowflake falls at 3 miles per hour, it
appears the snow is falling up during an elevator ride.
