As the Vatican prepares for its Papal conclave, Sr. Judy Ryan, says she prays daily for a Pope who will listen to the concerns of women. You may recognize the name – Sr. Judy is the biological sister of Father Michael Ryan, the pastor of St James Cathedral. Her order, the Sisters of the Holy Names, is part of the organization whose leadership is being investigated by the Vatican, which suspects it of dabbling in too much feminism.
She feels the Vatican is going to have to address the issues being raised by Catholic women, some of whom have been leaving the church because they’ve given up hope. Sr. Judy told Dave Ross that the Vatican should at least allow discussions of things like birth control, female priests, married priests, and even consider moving toward the day when a gay wedding could take place at the Cathedral.
