Mexico may be off the hook for paying for Trump’s wall

Is it a long-awaited pivot? The reboot? The reset? I pose the question because Thursday night in Charlotte North Carolina the candidate who never backs down backed down a little.
“Sometimes, in the heat of debate, you don’t choose the right words. I have done that,” Trump said.
There was some laughter from the crowd. People were not sure if they were truly witnessing history, or if it was just more sarcasm.

Then the chanting began. This would have been the moment when the old Trump would say, Nah, just kidding. But he didn’t.
“And I do regret it,” Trump said instead. “Particularly where it may have caused personal pain … I can promise you this: I will always tell you the truth.”
I will always tell you the truth.
So, later in the speech when the crowd began chanting, “build that wall,” I wondered how he would respond.
“We will build the wall. Believe me,” Trump said.
He will still build the wall. But there was no mention of Mexico paying for it.
Hmmm.
