And now news...
The agent for Felix Hernandez, Wil Polidor, tells ESPNdeportes.com that there is no agreement as of yet between his client and the Mariners. The two sides are continuing to work on a deal, however.
"At this moment, we have covered 70 percent of the road," Polidor said.
The Mariners have stated for the past two days that no announcement is imminent.
Another interesting turn of events is that with the negotiations still ongoing, Felix has pulled out of the WBC. It would appear that he has taken some heat from some in Venezuela for this and he took to Twitter to apologize to his fans there (in Spanish) but to also ask them to think before they made some of their comments.
He said that the decision was not easy and that while he loves his country it was important to put his family first. He hoped the fans would understand and asked them to put themselves in his shoes.
In other news: Jason Churchill of Prospect Insider has reported and a club source has confirmed that the Mariners and pitcher Jon Garland have a minor-league deal with an invitation to spring training, pending a physical.
