Major League Baseball has announced the 2014 season schedule and the Mariners once again open on the road.
For the sixth straight year they will open the season away from Safeco Field, this year in Anaheim on March 31. The Mariners will play three games against the Angels then four in Oakland before heading home for the Safeco opener against the Angels on April 8. The Mariners will face division rivals in 22 of their first 25 outings.
Interleague games to be played in Seattle will include three with the New York Mets from July 21-23, two games against the Atlanta Braves from Aug. 5-6 and three against the Washington Nationals from Aug. 29-31. The Mariners will play Miami, Atlanta and Philadelphia on the road.
Travel is predictably bad with a grueling 12-day trip to Los Angeles, Houston and Toronto at the end of September. For an added twist, the team has just one day off that month. The season will finish with all but four games in the month of September being played against division rivals.
