Bad news for Carp, interesting news for the Mariners
The Mariners have announced that Mike Carp has been placed on the 15 day disabled list with a sprained right shoulder. Carp suffered the injury when he dove for a ball in the fourth inning of Wednesday's game. He will be re-evaluated when the team returns to Arizona Friday.
Tough news for Carp, who was thrilled to make his first Opening Day lineup. Carlos Peguero was recalled to take his place on the roster but is not starting tonight. Instead Chone Figgins will play left field and Kyle Seager will be at third. This is something I thought we could see at times in an effort to get Seager, who had a great spring with the bat, into the lineup.
Figgins has played primarily center when he has played the outfield but did get a good amount of work in left this spring. Wells and Peguero are also options but I am not surprised to see Wedge go with Seager tonight. I suspect we could see this a lot while Carp is on the DL.
