Callups, lineups and more moves
The Mariners have added seven more to the roster as they announce the following September callups: Mike Carp has been recalled from his rehab assignment, Luis Jimenez selected from Triple-A, and Shawn Kelley, Alex Liddi, Hector Noesi, Carlos Triunfel and Casper Wells all have been recalled. In order to make room for Jimenez on the 40-man roster Johermyn Chavez has been designated for assignment. The Mariners have 10 days to trade, release or outright Chavez.
The 40-man roster is full and the big-league roster now stands at 34.
We will learn more about how Eric Wedge plans to use the new additions when he meets with the media at around 5:30.
A few quick notes ...
Lineup for Tuesday's game against the Red Sox:
Ackley 4
Gutierrez 8
Seager 5
Montero DH
Smoak 3
Olivo 2
Robinson 7
Wells 9
Ryan 6
Felix Hernandez pulled in another honor Tuesday as he was named the AL Pitcher of the Month. It is his third pitcher of the month award.
The Jackson Generals start their playoffs Thursday with a game against Chattanooga. Big honor for starter Brandon Maurer, who was named the Southern League's Most Outstanding Pitcher as voted by the field managers, broadcasters and print media. Maurer finished the regular season with a 9-2 record and a 3.20 ERA.
One last note, and I have mentioned this before: Wednesday's game is listed on the original pocket schedules as starting at 12:40. That is incorrect. The first pitch is at 7:10.
