(City of Puyallup)
At least two dozen buses were damaged on Wednesday in a massive fire at a Puyallup School District bus garage.
Smoke from the bus fire was seen for miles as the buses burned. Puyallup Police said there were sounds of explosions coming from the garage as the fire started. The area around the garage was evacuated due to heavy lingering smoke. The fire, however, was under control by 3:40 p.m., according to Central Pierce County Fire & Rescue.
The damaged buses were reportedly new. School is scheduled to start in the Puyallup School District on Sept. 6. The district will make plans for the remaining fleet to “ensure safe transport of students on their first day of school,” officials said in a statement.
There were about 70 people on-site when the fire erupted. All district employees have been accounted for. No injuries were reported. All evacuations were lifted by 5:30 p.m., according to KIRO 7.
The fire is now under control. There are no reported injuries. Local evacuations are still underway due to smoke. #PSD#CentralPierceFire.
