Get your cameras ready. Where there’s smoke, there’s a stunning sunset, which is why Friday’s Northwest sunset is expected to be more colorful than usual.
For the last week, winds have blown towards the Pacific Ocean, away from Puget Sound. But the wind’s direction has changed. By late Friday afternoon, that smoke will have moved towards the Puget Sound region. It should be enough to fill the sky and capture all those fading rays of sunlight.

“From what I’ve heard, people over in Aberdeen and the coastal areas have seen some very colorful sunsets over the last couple of days,” said Dustin Guy with the National Weather Service. “I think it would be the same situation they’ve seen, only it will be transitioning over to our direction instead.
“It would be more of a haze obscuring the sun a little bit,” Guy said. “It will certainly bring a very orange tinge to the sky as we get into the later afternoon and evening hours.”
If you want a great photo, act quickly. Much cooler weather is expected this weekend. Cooler temperatures are expected to disperse the smoke that will give us the light show.
