‘Southside with You’ is a movie Conservatives should consider

You are getting a film review of “Southside with You” from a very committed, partisan Republican. Yet I think it will be useful for a lot of people who don’t like the president to see this movie.
Even for someone who is not a fan of Barack Obama, the movie is very successful. It’s remarkable. And I say that after voting against Obama twice. I think he’s a failed president, but I give the movie three out of four stars.
“Southside with You” is not a biopic about President Barack Obama. It’s a story of one afternoon and evening. It was the first date between Barack and Michelle Obama – and it was not supposed to be a date.
The movie begins on a summer Sunday afternoon with Michelle getting ready for her first date with a new summer intern at her office. Barack is doing the same.
Now this is all true. Barack is a bit older than Michelle. He spent time as a community organizer before going to Harvard Law School. Michelle already graduated from Harvard. She was an associate in this firm, and was responsible for supervising him at the firm. She therefore, very strictly, did not want to have a personal relationship with him. But she agreed to go to a speech with him. She tried to convince him it was not a date.
Spoiler alert: the movie ends with them falling in love.
What’s amazing about this film is the acting. Parker Sawyers, who plays Barack Obama, looks, sounds, and walks exactly like him. Tika Sumpter is equally good as Michelle. There’s one caveat, however. I’ve met the First Lady and she is imposing. She’s very tall and Tika Sumpter is not. But she does a spot on Michelle Obama, especially in how she speaks.
Another interesting thing, is that the president has had a life-long struggle with smoking. He’s a heavy smoker and you see that in the film.
The reason the film is a three-star movie, instead of a four-star movie, is that in the film Barack discloses things about his past that I’m sure he did not disclose on that first date.
The very last sequence in the film is so brilliant. For anyone who has ever been in love, it really does relate to you.
One reason Conservatives should consider this movie is the issue of promoting family values. There is nothing more central to family values than the love between a husband and a wife. Whatever you want to say negative about Barack Obama, as a role model for all Americans, one thing you cannot criticize him on is his role as a husband and a father.
The film is going to be emotional to people. And it is fairly light on the progressive propaganda. I’m very eagerly awaiting the inevitable films about when Donald met Melania, or the ‘Bill and Hillary’ movie.
