Pieces of a human skeleton were discovered on a construction site in Gig Harbor and now investigators thinking the bones may be Native American.
The bones were uncovered Thursday morning by an excavator working on a new home on Goodman Drive, according to KIRO 7.
“We did have an anthropologist come out, someone who is more of an expert in the field, to see if these bones might be Native American, and there is a possibility that they are,” Detective Ed Troyer with the Pierce County Sheriff Office told KIRO Radio’s Ron and Don Show.
Troyer says multiple bones were recovered along with bits of deteriorated clothing. If it turns out they are Native American, investigators will work with local tribes to make sure they are reburied with respect.
“Hopefully it is Native American bones and we don’t have a homicide from years and years ago,” Troyer said. “But we won’t know that for sure until early next week.”
