An overnight crash that knocked down power poles and sent one to the hospital blocked a portion of State Route 522 through the Monday morning commute.

The highway was closed between 96th Avenue Northeast and Northeast 180th Street, after a car slammed into a utility pole around 11:15 p.m. Sunday.

The crash damaged poles and tore down wires, forcing law enforcement to shut down the roadway.

The 30-year-old driver was transported to the hospital. The extent of his injuries are unknown.

The cause of the crash is unknown.

KIRO Radio’s Chris Sullivan reports traffic on westbound 522 into Bothell was at a crawl by 7 a.m. Drivers were traveling as slow as 2 mph up to the detour route at 180th.
