'Argo' gains momentum at SAG Awards, but KIRO Radio's Dave Ross voted for 'Lincoln'

Off air, Dave Ross is known for his roles in local productions of Gilbert and Sullivan favorites. But it's not those acting chops that gave Dave his first opportunity to vote for the Screen Actors Guild Awards.

Dave was able to cast a vote for the cast of "Lincoln" because last winter the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists, of which Dave is a member, merged with the Screen Actors Guild.

At Sunday night's award show, they boasted "one union." And then, the favorite, "Lincoln," was taken out by "Argo."

Even though he didn't vote for "Argo," Dave has a theory that journalists like him want to see movies about the news. "'Argo' is about a current events story, and now you've got these thousands of news people able to vote for the first time for the Screen Actor's Guild awards. And we're just beside ourselves with this type of power."

Tom doesn't think there is as much to that theory. "The journalists have been going hog wild about 'Lincoln' too."

All of the guilds (Producer's Director's Actor's, etc.) have the opportunity to vote for the Academy Awards, and even before the merger, SAG was one of the largest voting blocks. If they're picking favorites with "Argo," once favorited-"Lincoln" may be falling by the wayside.

But Tom says "Argo" might not just have the numbers in it's favor. The Producer's Guild, one of the smallest and most elite groups picked "Argo" for best film as well.

In case you haven't - Tom says both "Argo" and "Lincoln" are worth seeing.

    Journalism...
I found a definition that fits Dave's brand of "journalism" as the 4th option on Dictionary.com...

writing that reflects superficial thought and research, a popular slant, and hurried composition, conceived of as exemplifying topical newspaper or popular magazine writing as distinguished from scholarly writing: He calls himself a historian, but his books are mere journalism.

That is, of course being charitable...propaganda would be the more common term.

My only problem is that Kiro and Tom...
Liked to show these celebrities as people. They are normal people but individuals that love to take our money while spouting other views, leftist views. Never mind that movie prices continue to go up to support their wealth while American's flock to the movies to help their depression. Never mind that these glory stars spout views that we shouldn't run co2 but continue to fly their private jets everywhere; even in some cases to buy a cheese burger. Hollywood is full of a bunch of phonies....they cry foul while ignoring their own actions. Gun violence? Global warming? Human rights? Hollywood is the biggest violators.
