By day, you can hear Tom on KIRO Radio 97.3 FM, and by night, he sits in the dark, making snide comments about what he sees on the silver screen.Tom Tangney's favorite Super Bowl ads
on February 4, 2013 @ 8:16 am (Updated: 9:20 am - 2/4/13 )On the countdown to Super Bowl commercial greatness, Tom picked two serious, weighty Chrysler ads, reminiscent of that Eminem ad about Detroit and the auto industry, and the Clint Eastwood ad for Chrysler ad about it's halftime in America, and one ad that managed to poke fun at all the others.
Coming in third place was the ad for the Chrysler RAM pickup truck, featuring the voice of radio legend Paul Harvey. Tom's only criticism is that it felt that the two-minute commercial went on a little too long.
In second place, was the ad for Jeep, featuring the voice of Oprah Winfrey. The ad made you hang on, while feeling American for the entire two minutes, until the very end when you found out the commercial was for Jeep.
Tom's favorite commercial was for Samsung. At the height of the game - the two minute warning - with the 49ers on the five yard line, they managed to do an ad that poked fun at every other ad we'd already seen during the Super Bowl. But, it also poked fun at itself.
Some honorable mentions also included: Amy Poehler in an ad for Best Buy; the "racist" VW ad; the Joe Montana stain cleaned by a Tide wielding wife (and Ravens fan); and the Babylandia commercial for KIA.
And there was one more. It aired after the final play, and officially it isn't considered a Super Bowl commercial. Still, a Jell-o ad managed to mock the winning city and offer San Francisco some condolences - in the form of pudding.
"Nothing masks the bitter taste of defeat like the sweet taste of Jell-o."
