Who should and will win the Oscar

This year's Oscar campaign was two weeks longer than usual, since the Academy moved up its nominations deadline without moving up the actual Oscar ceremony. Whether the length of the campaigns had any effect on the Oscar outcomes will only be known come Sunday night. The Best Picture, Best Actor, and Best Supporting Actress categories look pretty locked up but there's still a chance for some movement in the other top categories.

Here's hoping there will be at least a few surprises.

    Django Unchained
Was great for the first hour. The second half of the movie was so over the top and gratuitously and unnecessarily violent that it just turned stupid.... Silver Linings Playbook, Zero Dark Thirty and Argo were all 10 times better than Jango with a silent D....

I have to agree about Django.
The movie was pretty entertaining for the first hour, but degraded from that point.

I was left feeling that Quentin started throwing in violence and the "N" word as much as he could... just because he could... it felt very over the top to me.

As to the rest of the movies...
The only other one that I saw was Les Miserables... I liked it, but am not sure if it was truly oscar worthy... though I do have to agree that Anne Hathway did a good job... but I can't compare to the other actress' as I did not watch their performances.

The other movies are a typical example of Hollywood and critics having different tastes than most other "average" public.

I'm somewhat interested in Silver Linings Playbook, but otherwise, I have little intrest in the other movies that all the critics and the Hollywood elite are fawning all over.

    Tangney's support of Django
just perpetuate violence in our culture. He is guilty of promoting such violence.

He has the easiest job in the world -- don't produce anything just complain about what other people make, pick the trendiest film so you can get invited to the hip parties, and make guesses that you have absolutely no consequences for.

How true. You'd think that a hipster liberal like Tagney would call out the extreme GUN violence and just plain mindless, over the top viciousness of the killing. After the Doctor died, the movie turned into a turd. But, hey, it is just a movie.

    Got to agree with Tom
Life of Pi was great and should get Best Director. And regardless of the violence Django Unchained was EXCELLENT. I thought Lincoln was difficult to watch. Daniel Day Lewis was good but...

are orchestrating an effort to encourage guild members to vote based on political ideology rather than artistic merit. Pretty much takes the fun out of it for me.
