Some call this Romney, 47 percent-filming bartender a 'hero'

Mitt Romney now knows the name of the man who helped scuttle his presidential campaign, a bartender with a video camera.

"There are 47 percent of the people who will vote for the president no matter what. There are 47 percent who are with him, who are dependent upon government who believe that they are victims, that the government has a responsibility to pay for them who believe that they were entitled to health care, to food, to housing, you name it," Romney wascaught on tape saying.

That 47 percent comment dogged the Mitt Romney campaign all the way up to Election Day and until yesterday no one knew where the secret videotape came from and who shot it. It turns out it was the work of a bartender at the private Romney fundraiser.

Scott Prouty told MSNBC's Ed Schultz that he is a registered Independent and had no political motivation in his decision to tape the speech.

"I thought he would say basically the same things he was saying in public. I had no idea it was going to be this big thing that it turned out to be," said Prouty.

He said a lot of the wait staff at the function had brought cameras, because at an earlier fundraiser they all worked, Bill Clinton had come back and met the staff and a lot of them wanted to capture the moment in case Romney did the same thing.

But Prouty said he was put off by Romney's comments.

"The day in day out struggle of everyday Americans - that guy has no idea."

And why is he coming forward now, after all this time? He says he didn't like Romney's post-election efforts at explaining away his 47 percent comment.

"The election wasn't even that close. I think he needs to take personal responsibility for his campaign, take personal responsibility for the words he said, and move forward."

Prouty may not have started out that way but he sure sounds like a "political animal" now. And by the way, I'm sure he's already a hero to lots of Democrats (less so to Republicans, I imagine.) But news surfaced Wednesday that seven years ago, Prouty had saved a woman from drowning in Florida. She had accidentally driven her car into a canal and when he happened on the scene, he immediately dove in and managed to cut her free.

So, he's a real hero too.

his comments are true. I see more and more people falling into the belief that the government OWES them something. Housing, foodstamps, "free" medical, "free" phones, free everything. I'm sick of it!!! Now the gov is out of money and people are whining about having to support themselves. Oh wait, they want to RAISE taxes and guess who pays??? The working stiffs. Keep in mind that somone has to work to pay for one that sits at home and does nothing. Wrong on all levels. Now for the legit people that need help... I have no issue with at all but it seems there are more and more looing for a free ride. The wagon is getting heavier by the day. Think about it!

I'm still dissapointed with Conservatives who back up the 47 percent comment
You are so badly misinformed if you believe 47 percent of the country is playing "Victims" and believe the Government should provide everything for them. Absolutely misinformed. Romney came up with this number by talkin about people who don't pay income tax. The truth is, That number includes retirees who draw SS who paid into SS all their lives, Wounded Veterans who recieve assistance from service related disability's (Those are your "Victims" trying to mooch off society? VETERAN'S!?) seriously you guys should distance yourself entirely from this statement if you have a shred of decency towards people that fought for your freedoms... The rest of those are college kids and a small minority group are actually just flat out moochers... you honestly act like half the population is just lazy as fack, how many people do you know, Now count how many of those people live solely off the government and tell me that number equals almost 50% ... you can't... because it's a bogus facking number and you're stupid for carrying on with it... just like Romney was stupid for saying it... he deserved to lose and you can hate Obama all you want, but most believe Romney would have been worse, and he probably would have been.

Shining example as to why I thought Romney wasn't fit to lead. The man thinks middle class income is $250,000/year for god's sake... Out of touch with reality, with a condesending attitude to boot. Sadly, most of the posters here are proving that conservatives don't understand their alienating nature.

    Well said, sometimesrock.
After all, it's not like Prouty selectively edited the video, like FOX News or James O'Keefe are always doing. It was unedited video of Romney being, well, Romney. You know, pompous, out of touch, and wrong.

And the voting public, saw him as another phony saying one thing to the public, while behind closed doors he reveals what really thinks about half the people he's supposed to represent.

Prouty was a true patriot for revealing him.

    Deceptive editing, Hayduke?
You must be talking about MSNBC/Andrea Mitchell's deceptive edit of Romney's "Wawa" commments.

Or NBC's deceptive edit of George Zimmerman's 911 call.

Or MSNBC/Ed Schultz's deceptive edit of a Rick Perry video to make him appear racist.

Or MSNBC's deceptive edit of video of a Tea Party rally to hide the fact a man who was carrying a firearm is black. In fact, they not only edited out his image, they also claimed he is white.

Just a few weeks ago, NBC edited video to make it look like Second Amendment rights supporters were heckling the father of a child slain at Sandy Hook Elementary.

Those are just a few examples of the single-largest "MSM" news organization is in the bag for liberals and Obama.

Let's pretend, just for the sake of argument, that you're actually right this time, and your guy wins in 2016.

When your POTUS is trying to deal with a failing economy or some overseas crisis, and you guys try to pin it on Obama, do we Democrats then get to say that Obama Is not in the WH anymore?

are the dems "elitist, entitled mamma's boys/girls" or are they "The brainwashed dull unimaginative easily manipulated left wing voter."

the first one is fine with me. nothing wrong with "elitist" in the republican light because all it means is "educated person."

the second, and the one that you chose to use, is actually a LITTLE MORE ACCURATE for the fox news crowd, which is the "heart" of the republican party.

    nice try though.

    Hero?
I find it refreshingly honest that Romney spoke what was on his mind instead of speaking politically correct babble like we hear out of the other candidates. I hope this guy finds a new career -- because he's going to need one. Any catering company that I've ever used would be sued for violating a customers privacy -- per their contract. I voted for Obama and feel politically betrayed by what was fed to me and what's happening right now. Turn back the clock and there's no way I vote for Obama. I'm disgusted by the petty, passive aggressive tactics, all the political maneuvering, and the pandering to special interests. I bought all of that election BS about how "unamerican" the debt was, how he wasn't going to take special interest monies, and how he was going to be different? From where I sit -- this is the WORST leadership I've ever seen. I just hope we can recover from this mess, whomever becomes the next President. Be it Democrat or Republican.

He raised the deficit to 16 trillion by the end of his first term. It's projected if he continues with his plan to reach 20 trillion when he finishes his 2nd term. There's you're 20-35% reduction.

    Dear sweet whoever you are...
You are an uninformed lemming. The debt is at 16T, the deficit has been reduced by Obama by 20-35%. In fact, since the start of fiscal year 2011, President Obama has signed into law approximately $2.4 trillion of deficit reduction for the years 2013 through 2022. Nearly three-quarters of that deficit reduction is in the form of spending cuts, while the remaining one-quarter comes from revenue increases. As a result of that deficit reduction, the projected rise in debt levels from today through 2022 has decreased by nearly 10 full percentage points of gross domestic product. Under these policies, debt levels in 2022—as a share of GDP—will be only slightly higher than they are expected to be by the end of next year.

That's why he's talking to MSNBC's Ed Schultz, right? This guy is scum. But the commited lib that he is, Tangney (who I like) decided he needed to wrap up the article by throwing a life ring to this guy's character and mentioning that he saved a woman's life 7 years ago? PUH-LEEEZE. Imagine if this guy had taped Obama. The only stories dragged up from 7 years ago would be DIRT on the guy. But there's no need for an "Obama tape". Obama is on tape every single day and the media IGNORES it.
