Ballard neighborhood best at ditching cars for bikes

The City of Seattle is challenging people to give up their cars and ride their bikes or walk.

According to the Seattle Department of Transportation blog, more than 1,000 people have signed up for the July/August Walk Bike Ride Challenge and have saved 96,000 miles of car trips.

The neighborhood with the highest rate of people who’ve ditched their cars is Ballard with over 500 reported trips. The Roosevelt and Maple Leaf neighborhoods are slower to leave their cars in the driveway, with not even 100 trips combined.

The city plans to update the results in August and when the program is complete. The results are not be take too seriously and the city says some results may be higher “simply because they have more residents.”
