TUKWILA, Wash. (AP) - The Seattle Sounders bolstered their defense by selecting Andrew Duran out of Creighton with the 15th overall pick in the 2012 MLS SuperDraft.

Duran was taken late in the first round on Thursday. Seattle later selected forward Babayele Sodade out of Alabama-Birmingham with the 34th overall pick.

The 22-year-old Duran was honored as the Missouri Valley Conference defensive player of the year and was a second-team all-America selection in 2011. He made 48 starts in his five seasons at Creighton, although his 2008 and 2010 seasons were cut short by injuries.

Duran can play either center back or on the defensive wings.

Sodade had 13 goals and five assists as a senior for the Blazers and was a Conference USA first-team selection.
