Chalk Talk: Seahawks come up short on fourth down

By Brady Henderson

Pete Carroll bucked conventional wisdom when he decided to go for it on fourth down with seconds remaining in the first half of Sunday's loss to the Bengals.

Marshawn Lynch took a handoff from Tarvaris Jackson and was stopped at the 1 yard line. That run produced a first down, but the Seahawks couldn't stop the clock having used their final timeout before the play. Instead of heading into halftime with three more points and some semblance of momentum, the Seahawks trailed 17-3. They would lose 34-12.

Carroll took responsibility afterward, calling the decision a mistake. As Brock Huard shows in this week's edition of Chalk Talk, left guard Robert Gallery was culpable as well.

You can see video of the play on the Bengals' website.
