Quarterback Jimmy Clausen could be available
The Seahawks took a strong look at Jimmy Clausen leading up to the 2010 draft before passing on the former Notre Dame quarterback.
After two uninspiring years in Carolina, he could be available.
The Panthers are well over the salary cap and will need to create cap space by cutting players or restructuring deals. The team owes Clausen a $923,000 roster bonus next month, which could be an untenable amount considering his lack of success to date. Clausen, a second-round pick in 2010, had the league's worst QB rating as a rookie and spent last season third on Carolina's depth chart.
For that reason, he's being mentioned as a candidate to be released.
The Seahawks, meanwhile, could be looking to add a quarterback with Charlie Whitehurst's contract set to expire.
