Brevity or deception?

Listen to Dave’s commentary: Brevity or deception?

Teamsters union President James Hoffa is getting heat for his warmup speech yesterday in Detroit:

Here’s one version I heard:

“President Obama, this is your army. We are ready to march. Let’s take these SOBs out and give America back to America.”

That’s the cut I heard. Calling for an “Army” to “take out” the SOB’s. Except the cut was edited. The original is three times as long — listen to it:

“President Obama, this is your army. We are ready to march. And President Obama, we want one thing: Jobs, jobs, jobs, jobs, jobs, jobs, jobs, jobs. That’s what we’re going to tell him. When he sees what we’re doing here, he will be inspired, but he needs help. And you know what? Everybody here’s gotta vote. If we go back and keep the eye on the prize…Let’s take these SOBs out and give America back to America.”

OK, he’s long-winded. But Politico and Fox and others deliberately cut out this part:

“Jobs, jobs, jobs, jobs, jobs, jobs, jobs, jobs”

Which indicates these are people who above all want to work… and they cut this part:

“And you know what? Everybody here’s gotta vote.”

Which makes it clear this is an army… of VOTERS. Sometimes editing is deception masquerading as brevity.

Ross: Are we killing car culture? Or is car culture killing the US?

I don’t think the question is whether we're going to "kill" our car culture. The real question is can we stop our car culture from killing the U.S.?

Every move you make, every swerve you take, every lane change you fake – someone’s watching you. Do drivers have a right to keep driving data private?

The rent control bill died in the Washington State Legislature this week, even though Democrats control both houses.
