You know you crush bugs when you walk, right?

Some vegans are mad at Starbucks for coloring its Strawberry Frappuccino with a food dye made from the crushed cochineal bug.
Cochineal bugs color lots of things: yogurt, candy, cosmetics. But they’re not just here for your decoration — they’re animals with rights, say the vegans who are petitioning Starbucks to use a plant instead, like beets, or purple sweet potatoes, or paprika. (Wouldn’t that be a Paprika Frappuccino? Mmmmm.)
OK, I’ll show you how to make your own beet dye. But how do you know beets don’t have the right to live, too? What are you, God?
The carnage.
