Update: KIRO 7 reports the man who was shot on a Metro bus in Renton died.
Detectives are still trying to figure out what prompted a shooting on the bus.
King County Sheriff’s Sgt. Cindi West says the shooter killed the man and then walked to the front of the bus and ordered the bus driver — at gunpoint — to stop and open the door. He escaped, but police arrested him nearby.
Original story
Police responded to a shooting in Renton on a Metro bus Tuesday evening.
The shooting happened near South 21st Street and Talbot Road and on Metro bus route 169. Roads around the scene of the Renton shooting have been shut down while an investigation is underway.
The shooter is in custody.
“Witnesses on the bus tell us there were two men sitting toward the back of the bus having a conversation,” said Cindy West with the King County Sheriff’s Office.
“One of the men pulled out a gun and fired multiple times striking our victim at least one time,” she said. “The suspect then went up to the bus driver, pointed the gun at the bus driver and told them to stop and open the door so he could get off.”
The suspect then fled the bus, but didn’t make it far before Renton police picked him up.
KIRO 7 reports that the victim of the Renton shooting is a man in his 20s. He was transported to Harborview Medical Center in “grave condition” after being shot in the back of the head.
West said that it is unknown if the two men knew each other or not.
Other buses on Metro bus route 169 were re-routed around the scene throughout the evening.
