Impossible to ignore conservative trend

Dec 1, 2016, 8:03 AM

In order to minimize the scope of the conservative victory in the recent elections, liberal commentators treat Donald Trump’s achievement as an isolated fluke — with a TV celebrity winning a battle of personalities by just enough votes in the upper Midwest to win a surprising electoral college victory.

But this misleading account ignores Republican triumphs at every other level: for the Senate, where the GOP won 21 races and the Democrats won 12, for governorships, where Republicans now control 34 states to the Democrats 15, and to the House, where Republicans won at least 241 seats to the Democrats 194. These are crushing margins — and the GOP has now won the House of Representatives four times in a row, and 10 times of the last 12.

The conservative trend over the last 25 years is so obvious that only blindly biased observers could continue to ignore it.
