Bill Nye’s robot can’t keep him ‘Dancing with the Stars’

In just a couple of weeks, Northwest Science Guy Bill Nye became a fan favorite on “Dancing with the Stars,” but it wasn’t enough to keep him in the game on top of a serious quad injury.
After reportedly tearing 80 percent of his quadriceps in a fall last week, fans didn’t even know if the Science Guy would dance Monday. But his dancing partner came up with the idea to turn Bill Nye into the robot guy.
Nye’s partner created a jazz dance routine that made it seem more natural that he couldn’t move – because he was a robot – and he was wearing a leg brace disguised by boots that went over his knees.
After the 90 second dance, “Dancing With the Stars” host Tom Bergeron made a reference to Nye’s national popularity.
“Before we hear from the judges, I just want to report it’s already got half a million views on YouTube.”
Though he didn’t get the highest score, the judges applauded Nye’s effort.
“Tonight we’ve seen some incredible dancing and then we’ve seen some incredible spirits. I think what you’ve done is absolutely astounding. You had one leg to dance on. That is no joke. You have a serious injury,” said judge Carrie Ann Inaba. “You went through it, you didn’t give up.”
With a total score of 16 points, Nye was eliminated. But he says that’s fine. With his injury, he probably could have only made it one more week anyway.
