Bryan John Appleby and The Head and The Heart this weekend

Bryan John Appleby was born in Yacolt, WA and then he and his family moved to California where he grew up before moving to Seattle just 5 years ago. When asked what the inspiration was for him to move to Seattle, he said for the 'not-surprising purposes of music'.

Since moving to Seattle - more specifically, Ballard - Bryan John Appleby has released an EP called Shoes for Men and Beasts and within the last year he's put out his debut full length, Fire on the Vine which I can only guess will make up the majority of his set when he plays The Paramount Theatre this Saturday, opening up for The Head and The Heart.

The Head and The Heart were 'discovered' while playing the weekly Sunday night open-mic night at Ballard's Conor Byrne pub. I asked Bryan John Appleby about his relation - if he had one - to The Head and The Heart and if he was familiar with Conor Byrne.

'Yeah, that's where I met those guys a couple of years ago. They weren't even called The Head and The Heart when we were back there, they were called Ladies and Gentlemen which was their first tentative band name,' he said.

The album cover for Fire on the Vine was put together by graphic designer Jordan Butcher and it reflects a collection of trinkets and items that Bryan John Appleby has amassed over the years. He said that he wanted the cover to 'look like a hardware store from the 40's mixed with an apothecary mixed with a mad scientist's living room, not his bedroom.' I say success.

Bryan John Appleby enjoys touring but the thing that he loves the most about what he's doing is the actual song writing. He hopes to start working on his second record as soon as he possibly can and says that 'now that we're coming up to the next tour, I will enjoy it only because I know that when's it's over I will have about six months of isolation to start working on songs and not be touring.'

Listen to the entire chat below. Oh, by the way, the show this Saturday is completely sold out.
