The Oakland Raiders may try to pull Marshawn Lynch out of retirement, ESPN reports.

The star running back is still technically under contract with the Seahawks, so if he were to come out of retirement Oakland would need to get him through trade or get an outright release from the Hawks.

Lynch is from Oakland and has said in the past he’s always wanted to play for the Raiders.

Lynch has made it clear in the past that he’s retired. During an interview with 60 Minutes Sports, he said, “I’m retired. Is that good enough?” he said when asked if he was really retired. “I’m done. I’m not playing football anymore.”

But his mother didn’t believe it.

When asked by Seattle’s Morning News if he is retired for good, Delisa said it’s tough to tell with Marshawn.

“I hope so, but I doubt it,” she said. Nothing is definite, she added. “He’ll surprise you at the blink of an eye.”

She said that Lynch always spoke of retiring.

“He said it every year,” Delisa explained. “Every year since he’s been in the league has been his last year.”

Lynch spent nine years in the NFL. He had more than 9,000 rushing yards during regular seasons and scored 57 rushing touchdowns.

Despite retiring, Lynch has remained engaged with his former team. He even showed up to a game at CenturyLink last season, where he gave Thomas Rawls concussion advice.

Keeping busy

Since hanging up his cleats Lynch has kept busy with his Beast Mode stores as well as making guest appearances on reality television shows and Skittles commercials.
