Seattle police take knife-wielding man into custody

UPDATE:
Seattle police have taken a knife-wielding man into custody after he brought downtown to a halt Tuesday afternoon.
The man allegedly threatened people on the street with the knife. The incident led to a standoff with police who fenced off a seven-block area around University Street and 3rd Avenue.
The man’s mother was also brought to the scene to talk to him. He surrendered and was taken into custody shortly before 4:30 p.m.

Seattle police have installed fencing around the area as a precaution.
KIRO 7 reports the man has been tased several times, but will not drop the knife he is allegedly holding.

Several blocks are closed to the public.
There are no reported injuries.
KIRO 7 reports that shortly before 3:30 p.m. law enforcement brought the man’s mother in to help negotiate.
