Don’t wait to talk about gun violence

As you know no doubt heard, there was a shooting Monday in San Bernardino. Undoubtedly, this will spark a debate, both online and in the real world, about gun control.
Good.

It’s completely appropriate to have this debate on the day a shooting occurs. Don’t listen to the nonsense that it’s exploitative to engage so quickly after the shots were fired.
You know, the old “too soon” argument.
There is no such thing as “too soon.” There is only “too late.”
So no matter what your position is on the issue, let it be known. My co-host believes you should wait 24 hours before talking about events like this because it’s insensitive to do otherwise. That makes no sense to me. Talk about it now. It’s an important, even vital, debate that this country needs to have.
NOW.
Don’t wait. In a nation riddled with gun violence, we should never stop talking about it. Even though the debate often devolves into name calling and misinformation, it’s better than silence.
Anything’s better than silence.
