Update: Children released, man in custody after South Seattle standoff

A SWAT team swarmed an apartment building in South Seattle where a man barricaded himself inside with a woman and four children after an assault.

The standoff began after the man punched a woman inside an apartment in the 3800 block of Rainier Avenue South near South Andover Street at about 5 a.m.
The man was inside an apartment with four children — ages 3 months, 1 year, 3 years and 11 years old — and a woman, who is his former girlfriend, and has a no-contact order against him. He was refusing to come out.
At about 8:15 a.m., the children were let out of the apartment. They were not hurt. The woman and man remained inside until the man was taken into custody at about 9:10 a.m.
The woman’s condition is unknown.

The woman who was punched is the sister of the man’s former girlfriend. She was taken to Harborview Medical Center for treatment.
