Ladies, our salary news is not good.
Women in Washington holding full-time jobs earn, on average, $40,993 per year while a man who holds a full-time job is paid $53,046 per year.
That’s according to new study from a national workplace rights group.
This means that women in Washington are paid 77 cents for every dollar paid to men, amounting to a yearly gap of $12,053 between men and women who work full time in our state.
Washington’s average is the same as the national salary average – with women earning just 77 cents for every dollar paid to men.
Looking at the Seattle area, women are paid 73 cents for every dollar paid to male peers.
These reports are loaded with figures that I haven’t fact checked, but all their sources are listed.
The DC-based nonprofit released the state-by-state study in an effort to urge Congress to pass the Paycheck Fairness Act.
It would amend the Fair Labor Standards Act to include more protections against gender-based pay discrimination, such as allowing women to pursue legal action against workplace salary bias.
The report concludes as a group, women who are employed full time in Washington lose approximately $10.3 billion ($10,310,437,525) every year due to the wage gap.
If the wage gap were eliminated, a working woman in Washington would have enough money to buy 87 more weeks of food and pay for seven more months of mortgage.
Those are the statistics. The reality behind the numbers is different for each woman.
Ladies, do you feel your salary is fair? Many do, and many women I know make more money than men.
I’m not complaining about my salary, but I believe I would earn more money in broadcasting if I were a man.
