Occupy Seattle not wanted at local college

Occupy Seattle's plan to relocate from Westlake Park to a local college campus has a problem. Seattle Central Community College does not want them on its property.

The college wrote an "open letter" to demonstrators today which states:

Camping on college property is prohibited for all individuals and groups. If this rule is violated, the college may choose to impose its own sanctions, including criminal or civil prosecution.

While supporting free speech, the college administrators are concerned the Occupy Seattle demonstrations would interfere with the "learning environment" on the Capitol Hill campus on Broadway.

The college has other events scheduled for this weekend, when Occupy Seattle was planning to move, and they regularly host a weekly farmer's market. Out of concern for the organizations which have permits to use the campus, they are rejecting the Occupy Seattle effort to relocate.

Earlier this week, Occupy Seattle stated their reasons for wanting to move to the campus. They thought more students could participate if they were at Seattle Central, and the location is more visible than Westlake at night.

"Westlake dies nightly, empowering police. On Broadway, we'll always be visible, and will draw support from the community," they said before they voted 108 to 26 in favor of setting up tents beginning Saturday.

Occupy Seattle organizers met last night (Wed.) and decided to march to the college anyway.

One member tells me they are planning to occupy Seattle's Wall Street soon. They're planning a march on Wall Street in the Belltown neighborhood November 12 as they "demands all facets of the financial and corporate sector to responsibly hold themselves accountable and viable for the damages they have carelessly caused.

The Occupy Seattle Wall Street rally will feature Occupiers "donning their corporate costumes and protesting the mind and spirit of the corporate and financial oppressors located in Belltown proper, as well as all over the Seattle area and the country."

    Way to go Seattle Central!
Somebody in Seattle actually saying "No" to this ridiculous movement - Kudos to Seattle Central!

    Indeed...
These idiots are definitely "interfering with a learning environment". My suggestion to the Occupiers: Head on up to Mayor McSchwin's house in Greenwood and camp out there for the winter. Oh, and don't "The World is Watching"...

*cough* And our grounds-keeper drew the line at cleaning up human feces in the parking lot...

What's the point of protesting at a school anyway? Shouldn't they be at a bank or Olympia or something somehow mildly topic related?

At this point it just looks like they are protesting 'big bathing'...

Who do these people think they are?
They contribute nothing to society and then expect a college to let them pollute their campus? Yeah, right! All these occupy people have done is embarrassed themselves with their own stupidity. And then they blame the very financial institutions that have created a country wealthy enough where people can manage to spend their lives doing nothing and still manage to avoid starvation.

    MikeyG, my sentiments exactly...
...considering that this morning, they are apparently planning to go to Seattle Central CC ANYWAY and try to "occupy" them. You're right on the money -- who DO they think they are? They've been dealt with far too tolerantly at Westlake anyway, disrupting businesses there and costing them lost revenue. They should all go work on their resumes. I do like the idea of camping on Mayor McSchwinn's lawn, though.

    Financially Oppressed Protestors?
Perhaps work ethic challenged and entitlement handicapped, but not financially oppressed. A sampling of the protestor demographic doesn't seem to indicate too many folks looking like they're concerned about their 401(k)'s. However, they sure seem to be overly concerned about access to more of the money I work for.

    Occupy.
First off, good for the college admin!!!! Why would ANY entity want these communist leeches on their property? Second, this is what happens when both Federal and State gov't leaders encourage class warfare, the redistribution of wealth and the idea that some how life should be "fair". Owebama and the Democrats are tacitly encouraging this as a distraction to what they've NOT accomplished and we all know it. But they have not 'hooked their wagon' to these morons, so come next yr, when nothing changes, they can have some plausible deny-ability. I do love the idea of them on McSchwinn's lawn, with his wife providing dinners and his bathroom at their disposal. But being a good liberal, he won't want that; they are all hypocrites after all.
