Pepper-sprayed teen claims she miscarried

An Occupy Seattle demonstrator says a pregnant woman who was hit with police pepper spray last week has had a miscarriage.

KINGTVOne of the Occupy Seattle activists makes this claim on a blog called OneAngryQueer. I'm working to verify the report that 19-year-old Jennifer Fox, who said she was three months pregnant, had a miscarriage on November 20, a few days after the clash with police on November 15.

The demonstrator, who calls himself Ian Awesome, says Fox told him, "It hurts. It's upsetting. I was ready to have a kid, because my family was going to support me in taking care of the child. Her name was going to be Miracle."

He writes: "Fox is receiving consultation with the Occupy Seattle legal team presently and will be deciding whether or not to seek legal action against the Seattle Police Department for the loss of her child."

Fox has since repeated her claim to The Stranger . She says she will provide medical records from Harborview to support her claim. Fox hasn't responded to my requests for an interview.

UPDATE Nov. 23: Dori Monson talked with Fox's foster parents who say she consistently lied to them. They doubt any of the 19-year-old's allegations. Fox maintains she has medical records that support her claim, but she has yet to provide them to anyone.

Seattle police have no comment, other than what's contained in a police report from September. They've launched an internal investigation.

    You know it's coming..but she should be in trouble for putting her unborn child in danger. If your going to protest, use your head. All for protesting, but if you break the law or don't listen to the police, then whatever happens, is on you. Don't come crying to us, asking for apologies when you had plenty of chances to NOT get blasted with pepper spray. CPS should be investigating this woman for being an idiot

    I'm going to go protest in politically charged environments, where I could be trampled, sprayed with fire hoses, or get pepper sprayed, (not to mention any other crimes that might get committed against me in a crowd of hooligans.

    Any child, unborn or otherwise is something special. Something that should be taken seriously and protected at all costs, since they are unable to defend or protect themselves.

    It is most unfortunate that Jennifer chose to be part of an action that may have endangered her child and possibly lead to his or her death.

    Hope she is able to recover, however. Many mothers to be, never fully recover a miscarriage of any type.......

    Every one of them tragic, indeed. The other 11 had nothing to do with Occupy Seattle.

    Good luck proving that the baby would *not* have miscarried anyway, even if the mother were sitting at home and working a telephone tree for the Republican party.

    A responsible soon-to-be mother wouldn't have put their unborn in harm's way. Of course, it's probably a bogus claim as is Flea-bagger's message. I'm still trying to figure out how the force used was inappropriate.

    Let's roll out the old bag who sounds like Donald Duck and now let's claim this. These parasites, regardless of age sound like manipulative little children. If the baby did die as a result of this prosecute the mother for reckless endangerment.

    There is no possible way she miscarried because of a dose of pepper spray. Simply impossible period. Go sue yourself for being stupid and not looking out for yourself and your child to be. This is 100% on you and not the Seattle Police. Go away and stay there...
