A rare malfunction at Safeco Field for FanFest
A message on Twitter warned Mariners fans of something that's only happened once at Safeco Field during a game. The roof failed to close due to a broken axle, making for a chilly Fan Fest.
"Coming to FanFest? An issue with the roof means parts of the ballpark won't be covered. All attractions are open, so dress accordingly."

The retractable roof has been reliable since the stadium opened in 1999. The Mariners tell me the only time it failed during a game was July 23, 2000 when a computer glitch led to almost an hour rain delay against the Rangers. The M's went on to win that game.
Let's not take the roof issue as a sign of what's to come for the season. I think it'll be a great one. But, I'm always optimistic. What are your thoughts about the Mariners as we near spring training?

Nearly 10,000 fans (9,774) attended Fan Fest. M's marketing manager Camden Finney tweeted this photo of Mike Carp, first base, signing baseballs for fans.
