UW traffic problems, circa 1960
Some things never change. The University of Washington, digging through archives, has discovered a video that shows in 1960 people were suggesting a need for a "rapid transportation system" allowing students to leave their cars at home.
The video also shows one of the first traffic cameras in the region. A closed-circuit TV camera used to coordinate parking, and the narrator states, "with it, one parking attendant can efficiently operate two parking lots."
This is one of hundreds of reels of film that Hannah Palin, film archives specialist with UW Libraries Special Collections, is trying to identify for archiving purposes. She has film clips from the late 1930s through the 1970s.
