New Miss Seattle was 'annoyed' with us

Nineteen beautiful, young women competed for the title of Miss Seattle over the weekend. The winner is Jean-Sun Hannah Ahn, a violinist and former Miss Phoenix.

She will compete in the Miss Washington Pageant this summer. Maybe by then she'll enjoy the weather because she wasn't happy with the city, or Seattle residents, in December.

She tweeted, "Ugh can't stand cold rainy Seattle and the annoying people."

MissSeattle

On her Twitter feed @MissPhoenix 2010, she frequently uses the word "annoyed," so perhaps it's just her favorite word. There are other unflattering comments on her page too. She should reconsider the way she's uses social media if she wants to be a public figure. The tweets above were from December of 2011. A friend of hers tells me she had not decided to enter the Miss Seattle Scholarship competition at that time.

UPDATE:

Miss Seattle apologizes for the tweets, in a comment on this blog.

"I apologize for the negative connotations towards the city of Seattle and its people or any other postings when I wasn’t in a positive place. Those tweets by no means reflect my actual opinions or views, I was simply having “one of those days” and sincerely apologize to anyone who took those statements offensively," says Ahn.

She is a Seattle native, and says she truly loves Seattle "with all of my heart and the support these past months in the Seattle community has just been indescribable."

"I realize now what a mistake it is to post things when your not in a good mood," she writes.

She deleted several unflattering tweets and renamed her account last night to reflect her new title, @MissSeattle2012.

Who are to say she shouldn't generalize that everyone is annoying and then turn around and call her annoying. Not to mention your opinions on her looks. That doesn't really make you any better, does it?

She most likely ran into someone like you! That's some venomous contempt. I shouldn't be surprised, especially coming from an uppity, condescending, knuckle dragging, progressive.

Puget Sound people are nice and un-friendly
After 20 years in the region, I can agree that PS people are passive aggressive, disingenuous and back talking. Folks here would put the stereotypical Maine residents to shame.

The new class of migrant workers
The uproar over the comments made by the new Miss Seattle 2012, Jean-Sun Hannah Ahn, made about the Jet City made me want to explore the motives that would cause an ex-Miss Phoenix to move to Seattle. The bottom line is economic. There's a new sub-culture of migrant workers out there. Being a migrant worker is not confined to the agricultural or restaurant industries any more(or Korean convenience stores, nail parlors, or teriyaki joints). Young, attractive women are being forced out of their home areas, forced to hit the road like a modern-day Joad family to seek their fortunes(and titles) in faraway areas. Just imagine the heartbreak that poor little Jean-Sun must have felt when after the heartbreaking drive from Phoenix, she was turned away at the State Of California inspection station in Daggett, Ca. like the Joads in "Grapes Of Wrath". I can imagine the inspector looking at her through mirrored Ray-Bans, and saying those fateful words "Oh, we don't care about fresh fruit anymore, but we've got enough local babes here in The Golden State, so you better just move along....try Oregon, Nevada, maybe Washington or Idaho......there's nothing for you here!!" The policies of Arizona's immigration policies are used in reverse for hard-bodied "chicks" like poor little Jean-Sun, having to emigrate to find semi-fame far away from the Malls of her native land. Like the National Lampoon cartoon in the article "The Day The Animals Discovered Death" (Jan '73- the "We'll Kill This Dog" issue), "Such is the fate of wild poodles". I'm reminded of the lyrics of Woody Gutrie's song "Do Re Mi": "California's a garden of Eden, a paradise to live in or see; But believe it or not, you won't find it so hot If you ain't got the do re mi."
