Catholic group wants a Dan Savage apology

Another Dan Savage speech, another group offended.

SavageSeattle's Savage is on a roll. He offended a group of high school journalists, and now he's upset Catholics with an appearance at Elmhurst College in Illinois.

Video footage (below) shows the gay rights activist engaging in an anti-Catholic rant that implies homosexual children are beaten "because of religion."

As Savage talked about same-sex marriage, much of the audience was laughing and clapping.

Savage got a loud response when he said, "What the Pope is saying is the only thing that stands between my d**k and Brad Pitt’s mouth is a piece of paper. I love that thought."

All of Savage's comments are things he's said before, including a quote that children "watch their parents beat up gay people from afar with their checkbooks and their votes. They feel entitled to beat up that gay kid in that school, because the adults in their lives are doing and giving their blessing to it, because of religion."

When Savage spoke to the National High School Journalists convention in Seattle in April, he told the crowd to "ignore the bull---t in the Bible about gay people" and described the reaction of a number of students who walked out as "pansy-assed." He later apologized for those comments.

Now another apology is requested - not from Savage but from Elmhurst College. Catholic League President Bill Donohue wants the president of Elmhurst, Dr. S. Alan Ray, to formally apologize for Savage's remarks on his campus.

Donohue tells the Catholic News Agency, "They had to have known about Dan Savage’s history of offering obscene anti-Catholic rants when they asked him to speak at the campus chapel."

    Actually, requesting an apology from this evidently most foul example of a human being is validating the individual. The vile creature is best allowed to spew its venom without official recognition by the subject of its attacks.

    Let the POPE first apologize for what his deeply dark and twisted religon has done to all the innocent humans that didn't buy into thier powerful RULE over the many many centuries. Look no further then the TORTURE devices used on the none believers. Remember the the "Holy" Inquisition? When my great great great grandfather and his entire family burned at the stake for not following the all mighty POPE. THE WHOLE IDEA of the Catholic church is built on evil deeds. THERE IS SO MUCH BLOOD AND SUFFERING on the POPES hands it makes my blood BOIL. Let that POPE first apologize to us, as he stands before us in his SHEEPS clothing like a monster, a dark devilish wolf in sheeps clothing!     Your 3 times great grandfather would have been BORN in the late 1700's at the earliest (assuming you're in your 60's now). And then there were no CATHOLICS 'burning people at the stake'. In fact, about the LAST people burned alive on a regular basis were the Irish rebels of 1798 in Ireland. Translation : THEY were Catholics that the good protestant Church of England burned as punishment for the revolt. .. And going back further, it was the PROTESTANTS who burned the witches, and most of those BEFORE 1600 on continental Europe. ............. So - just WHERE do you get this BS about Catholics burning people ? Let alone YOUR family ??????? ............ Just more fiction by whatever side of the political spectrum you haters gravitate to today.

    Or are you guys just upset that he pointed out the FACT that the Bible has been used to justify maltreatment of homosexuals?

    Opinions, by their very nature, are difficult to prove true or untrue. Among those who agree with any opinion, it will usually appear both true and well reasoned.     Actually, several days late. That tape was in a previous blog - though I can't remember whose it was

    An apology isn't needed, nor would it be offered in sincerity - much less followed up on with a promise not to do it again. This is just posturing and frankly it's silly. I agree with Nervoso; I'm not sure which side is being the bigger baby.

    that savage isn't putting his cause into the best light. he's becoming a hateful character who is supposed to be helping stop bullying... huh? how is that productive?

    i'd actually really like Obama to ask him to step down from his anti-bullying panel. he doesn't belong there.

    SHELK I am a Catholic and have NO DESIRE to see you burn nor your family at the stake. If you or anyone one else was about to be burned at the stake by a vigilante mob I would rush to your defense.

    The human race has made mistake in the past (And we still make them today) I hope and pray that we learn from our mistakes and not make them in the future.
