No change for McKenna on gay marriage

Although President Barack Obama says his view of gay marriage has evolved, a candidate for Governor in Washington is not changing his opposition to same-sex marriage.

Rob McKenna has often said he shares the same position on the issue as the Democratic president. They don't share the same views anymore. President Obama declared that "same-sex couples should be able to get married."

Obama's comments, in an interview with ABC News, marked the first time a U.S. president had publicly expressed support for gay marriage.

McKenna's campaign has not released a statement yet about the President's statements on same-sex marriage.

The Republican told me earlier this year, "As a Catholic I feel that marriage is a union of one man and one woman."

"For me it's not a matter of public policy, it's a matter of faith. I recognize not everyone holds that view," he said. He also says if there is a public vote on the state's marriage equality law in November he will set his views aside "enforcing the will of the voters and upholding that law."

Democrat Jay Inslee, also running for Governor, says there is a "clear distinction" between the two candidates on same-sex marriage.

"I've been in a marriage of 39 years and I know the rewards of that long-term relationship and I know the rewards of the community recognizing it," Inslee says. "No politician should be allowed to deny any of my fellow citizens that right to decide who they love."

Informational story. Why WOULD he change ?
But, will Jay Inslee please tell us what his 'clear distinction' is ??? ... I would his position was 'evolving' until Mr. Obama came out today - then changed lock step to supporting gay marriage. But maybe he didn't get the memo.

Linda Thomas has just proven herself to be a hack...
Obama changed his mind TODAY but expected the GOP candidate to voice his opinion immediately. After over four years of running for office, the President has finally offer changed his decision on the matter...it took four years for Obama to change but it is lost on Linda. Can we have more biased reporting? Cripes...Kiro morning show is full of self hating Catholics that are so full of their selves that that they prove their distaste. Sorry, Linda...give it a little more time, like the years Obama came to realize his 'dream'

    AKAF
Writing a story about the Gov. candidates' position on a historic announcement from the President makes me a hack because...?

not necessarily a 'hack', but I understand AKAF...................
You COULD have waited on your post until Inslee had actually commented - other than an ambiguous 'clear differences'. Either he says something today, or he never will. There were 3000 stories on MYNW alone yesterday that you didn't need to join the crowd immediately.

So anyone that does not agree with Linda
is wrong...."historic announcement", maybe for all the lefty leaning folks. I'm still trying to figure out why you feel married people deserve more rights then the unmarried....maybe do a little research and stop being a cheerleader for the gay community eh.

I thought it was a balanced story. Had views from both sides, linda didn't come out for one candidate over the other.
I believe in the one man one woman principle as well, but that does not mean I don't support gay marriage for others. Thats called a progressive ideology and its different that the Conservative - "my way or the highway" model. Meaning freedom means free.

    Obama punted.
He said it was a State's issue. I am not saying I disagree with that -- it's nice that he remembers the 10th amendment occasionally -- but I sincerely believe this move was forced due to Biden's gaffe and all the gay lobby coffers slamming shut until he said something "decisive". This double speak will still not satisfy a lot of the gay community.

The economy is still should be first and foremost.

This could not be MORE TRUE
There are no "Journalists" at KIRO,

just a pile of Political Action Committe people working for Bonniville.

Anything they can do to Shame a belief is not similar to Kiro's marching Orders is reported as one sided facts
