Forget the staycation, try a 'nakation'

CarnivalThe Carnival cruises that pass through Seattle are nothing like a new venture that will set sail next year. The Carnival Freedom will offer the first nude sailing.

Carnival says the sailing, scheduled from Florida to the Bahamas in February, is already 70 percent booked.

It's part of a growing trend for nude vacations, according to American Association for Nude Recreation. The nude vacation industry brings in $440 million a year.

I've talked with nudists who have a club near Snoqualmie. They say the lifestyle is simply about enjoying oneself without the social or physical burden of clothing in a non-sexual, family-friendly environment of like-minded people.

Confess, would you be interested in a nakation - a nude or clothing-optional vacation?

    Nothing New
Perhaps Carnival thinks this is new, but I've been on nude cruises since 2000 in Europe and the Caribbean. Furthermore, in 2007 I went on a nude cruise out of Seattle to Alaska and back on the Holland America MS Amsterdam. I would have taken a nude cruise a few years ago out of Florida, but the schedule didn't work out. Carnival is playing catch-up.

    Lots of fun
The cruises are fun. More relaxed than a non-clothes-optional cruise. People tend to be a little friendlier, so it's easier to have conversations and meet people. If you're into tanning (I'm not), you needn't fuss over straps and pale patches. Other than that it's really much the same as any other cruise.

    Fer sure..why not?
If you are on one of those cruises thats packed to the rafters with people and no place to go out on deck and sit..try going up to the clothing optional" deck. All ships have them. Seriously.. Lots of room. You just have to remind yourself that its not a naked fest of hotties, male or female... A few perhaps, but mostly not. Some who take off their clothes will disgust you.. Guys..its not a Sports Illistrated Swimsuit shoot..

"a nude cruise out of Seattle to Alaska"
Just does not seem like the right place on earth to go on such a cruise.

    Florida to the Bahamas....maybe.

    But Seattle to Alaska...and back??...... ;-{

    It wasn't cold
Aw, come on, you weather wimps. 1) On a large ship like the Amsterdam, people didn't have to go out on deck if they didn't want too, and 2) it was a non-issue, considering it was during the summer and quite a pleasant temperature.

    Hmmm
I would think that trying to eat dinner while some 75 year old guys' "stuff" is out there would be tough.... My dreams were already dashed in Maui when reality is NOT supermodels walking the beach in Corona swim suits.

    Wrong idea
@DesertRez During the cruises I've been on, clothing was always required in the formal dining room. The casual dining areas were clothing optional. Think about it though: if you're dining at a table, you basically don't see other people's 'stuff' unless you're sitting on the floor or something. Regardless, people on these cruises are expected to not act like voyeurs and to not go around looking at 'stuff' in the manner that would cause the distraction you fear.

But they are the last people on the planet you want to see naked.
