No gay pride flag for the Space Needle

GayPride Now, we have the answer to the question of whether the Space Needle will fly a rainbow flag this weekend in honor of Seattle's gay pride weekend activities.

No.

This statement was in my email from The Space Needle:

"As we don't raise any flag but the American flag on a regular basis, there are no plans to raise the Rainbow Flag again this year. We will continue to support equal rights and actively foster these causes as we have in the past."

The Space Needle flew a gay pride flag for the first time in 2010. A petition and fundraising effort convinced them to do it again in 2011.

The Space Needle, a symbol of Seattle though owned by a private company, initially said it would not fly the rainbow flag last year. The company changed its mind after $50,000 was raised to benefit charities that work with the LGBT community, and the flag waved during Seattle's 2011 Gay Pride Parade.

The 2012 parade is this weekend.

    Facebook to post
Linda, one thing I've seem hold true 100% of the time is that when blogs require Facebook (or other non-anonymous) methods of being public to speak in public, the level of discourse raises exponentially. I think you would very quickly see the bigotry fold like a cheap suit. It's interesting how quiet the more ignorant become when no longer protected by the veil of anonymity and the bravery of being out of range. My vote is for Facebook authentication.

I don't think so...liberals are the biggest bigots in the nation and most of them wouldn't be deterred by including their name. But as I've indicated, I will not submit my personal information to the abuse of Facebook...and in addition, I've received death threats in the past, so I don't intend to make it easier for somone to fulfill such threats.
