Zombie Sonics invade the NBA finals

"Failabrations" were planned in Seattle, as the Miami Heat beat the team formerly known as the Sonics. Final score 121 to 106 in a game 5 loss last night for the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Without their makeup, you might recognize the Zombies as Jason Reid and Colin Baxter - the director and executive producer of the documentary "SonicsGate." The "requiem for a team" aired nationally this year and examined the team's departure from Seattle.

The pair have been going to Thunder playoff games for the past few years wearing their green and gold, but they told each other that if the team made it to the finals they would step it up.

Reid and Baxter held signs and shouted their support for the Heat while sitting just a few feet from the Oklahoma City bench.

"We felt like we needed to make a stand against what happened in Seattle, prove that we have the best basketball fans in the world and help the Heat win a championship," Reid told ESPN.

They paid almost $4,000 each for the prime seats. The whole trip has cost them around 10 grand, and they're "not going to let this go until the NBA returns to Seattle."

The zombie costumes weren't born out of their idea alone. Reid told 710 ESPN's Kevin Calabro Show that they were inspired by ESPN's Bill Simmons. "Until this year he only referred to [the Thunder] as the Zombie Sonics."

They wanted to make a statement - and they did. Reid said that the cameras tried to avoid them, but it was difficult, given their front row seats, their zombie make- up, and who was sitting directly behind them.

Reid and Baxter were right in front of Kevin Durant's mom and brother during game 4 of the NBA Finals..

"Kevin's mom, the whole game, yells at Kevin, and gives him little instructions and little pieces of advice and actually, we were right in front, for him to talk to his mom, he had to talk to the Zombie Sonics," Reid said.

By the end of the game, Durant's mom had to move to talk to her son.

"This isn't out of spite or bitterness. We would have been here supporting our team if they still played in Seattle. However, things got a little weird. We don't really know the appropriate way to act. They don't have a fan playbook. There isn't a rule for what to do when your team gets stolen. And we do feel like it was stolen," said Baxter.

    Embarassing
Apparently, sour grapes come in green or gold. Good thing to know, next time I'm in the supermarket. Also, another good thing to know when shopping is that PAYING for an item and TAKING IT HOME can be considered "stealing," by Reid and Baxter's definition. If you buy something at a store, please consume it on the premises. Do not take it with you.

    don't blame the players
I agree with the premise. The way the sale and move was handled was completly messed up and i don't like Thurder ownership because of it. The players have nothing to do with it though. They are just playing basketball. I am accually a big fan of Durant even though i feel he should be in Seattle. I even would like to see him win (just not this year). however the Thunder are not comming back, especially after this season. efforts are better put into getting a new Sonics here. leave the players alone instead of sitting between them and their mom's....

Turn the page and get behind a movement to return a team to Seattle. Where was this drama when Seattle City reps/Seattle Center were not going to let the team play for free at the Key?

    Know your history
Back when the Ackerly's owned the Sonics there waqs no drama or problems with city or team. When Ackerly sold the team to Shultz, the problems slowly started. Shultz knew absolutely nothing about running a team and proved it by ruining the team and alienating its fan base. He is to blame for selling the team to Bennett without guaranteeing it wouldn't be relocated, but it is all on Bennett and Stern for trying to hold up the city to get their out in Seattle. Sure Bennett tried to get free rent at the Key, heck he even tried to gain control of revenue from the food court and other Seattle center attractions. Of course city officials weren't going to give in to Bennett and Sterns insane demands, would you? Fans were still disgruntled from the Shultz era, frustrated by the slimeball tactics of Stern and Bennett, and wary of trusting anything that came out of any of their mouths. The drama of all this came to a brutal head when Bennett did relocate the team; the animosity came from how he and Stern did it. The worst part of it all was the fact that Mayor Nickels helped Bennett by Stabbing the fans in the back and selling the Sonics history to him, after promises to fight to keep at least that. Why are fans so against OKC, painting their faces and cheering for anyone but the Thunder? Uhhhhhhhh... We fans are in a difficult situation; we despise all things Bennett but respect the players. We wish them the best, but don't want OKC to win a title. OKC fans never earned our respect, nor do we even view OK as a true NBA market. The only way they will ever change our minds; supporting a team that isn't winning. They never won an NBA title, they never played against Jordan and the Bulls, they've never done anything yet. GO HEAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wrong again. I am a realist who see's the NBA as past tense in Seattle, I hope I am wrong. Do you frequent Starbucks? Just a question. OKC owner was given a free rent deal at the Cheasapeake Cow palace, our leaders wanted a lease agreement, so I ask you, If you could make more Millions in OKC, as opposed to a pay-to-play deal at the Key, what would you do? take as long as you want to answer, even M101 partially agrees with me.

OKC for free or rent in Seattle?
As a greedy businessman from OKC the answer is obvious; if you can find someone dumb enough to build you a super expensive arena and then give you free rent and control of all the revenue streams... It's a no brainer, at least until the people who paid for the arena figure out they've been robbed of hundreds of millions of dollars by David Stern and friends. As a human, I would rather pay rent in the PNW than spend one day living in such an inbred cesspool as OK EVEN if it was free. Yes I've been there once, and couldn't wait to leave the land of steroid strip malls and get back to a real state with educated people.

    Since the fans of
OKC have no pity nor mercy (get over it Seattle, is what I have heard for the last 4 years from them) on those of us who were Sonics fans when the team was stolen from us.....

Is it too soon to laugh in their faces for having a team this talented losing 4 games to 1 in the Finals, and getting blown out of the final game?

HA HA HA HA HA HA HA! It is official: OKC Bombers suck. And it is too funny to see them lose. HA HA HA HA HA!

Too soon or not, let the crying begin, losers........
