Amanda Knox says that a report of her death has been “greatly exaggerated,” mostly because she is still alive.

A fake news story made to look like it came from CNN reported that Knox had committed suicide and left a note admitting to the 2007 murder of former roommate Meredith Kercher.

The West Seattle Herald, which Knox writes for, reports that the story was posted on a site that looked like CNN. The fake news led to the Herald’s own website being “swamped” with more than 300,000 hits.

The Herald’s managing editor is quoted as saying that Amanda is “alive and well,” and the fake site was reported for copyright violations.

Knox also tweeted:

As of early Tuesday morning, the fake story about Knox was unavailable. However, the website www.cnn-globalnews.com, which is where the story came from, was still running – with headlines such as “Hollywood Icon and Oscar Winner Clint Eastwood has passed away age 87.”

Knox, a University of Washington graduate, spent nearly four years in an Italian prison after being accused of murder. She was later exonerated and returned to Seattle where she still resides.
