Shares extend rally in thin pre-holiday trade
Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe speaks during a ceremony to wrap up the year's trading on the Tokyo Stock Exchange in Tokyo Monday, Dec. 30, 2013. “Thanks to our efforts, the economy went from minus to positive,” Abe said. With winter bonuses up by several hundred dollars on average, he said, “You have to use that money, keep it moving.” Asian shares advanced Monday in light but upbeat pre-holiday trading, as Japan’s Nikkei 225 index ended 2013 at its highest level in over six years.
