Ciscoe’s Tips of the Week:
– The Anna’s hummingbird stays in our area all winter. To keep them in your garden, plant perennials loved by hummers, such as lobelia, Zauschneria, and Schizostylis (crimson flag) and shrubs such as hardy fuchsia that bloom late into the season.
– Fertilize the lawn with a good organic lawn food.
– September is a great time to renovate the lawn. Rent an aerator machine and punch a gazillion holes. Then, overseed by raking grass seed into the holes. Fertilize with an organic lawn food, keep the lawn moist, and the seed will germinate and fill in quickly.
