An 18-year-old boy was arrested in connection with a crash in Kirkland that led to the death of a teenage passenger.
According to witnesses, a gray BMW was driving erratically on southbound I-405 and there appeared to be a passenger hanging partially out of a car window.
The BMW then drifted onto the right shoulder and struck the guardrail, which caused the passenger who was hanging out of the window to fall out of the car and onto the freeway just north of Northeast 85th Street.
Witnesses also told police that the BMW stopped and two people got out to look at the passenger who fell, but then ran back to the car and left the scene.
The passenger died at the scene. He was identified as 18-year-old Sydney P. Jahn from Kirkland.
Later Monday, troopers found the driver’s vehicle but were unable to find the driver. After he was identified by police, he turned himself in to detectives at 5 p.m. on Tuesday.
The driver was booked into the King County Jail. The charges he faces are not yet known.
