Seahawks' Terrelle Pryor has a first cousin you've probably heard of

Seahawks quarterback Terrelle Pryor was a Mariners fan growing up in Jeannette, Pa., which is more than 2,000 miles away from Seattle.

The reason? Ken Griffey Jr., and not only because the Mariners' star was the face of MLB at the time.

"That's my first cousin," Pryor told 710 ESPN Seattle's "Brock and Salk" on Tuesday.

Pryor said the connection is on his father's side and referred to Ken Griffey Sr. as his uncle, but the family tree isn't all that easy to put together from there even with an extensive Internet search.

"Growing up," Pryor said, "my grandma called me and she was like, 'You know, your cousin is Ken Griffey Jr.' I said, 'How come I never met him?' I guess there was something going on with the family. He's (from) exactly where my grandma is from, where she lives right now (Donora, Pa.). I guess something happened with the family and it kinda got split."

Pryor said he doesn't actually know Griffey Jr. personally. That never stopped him from being a fan, though.

"His father was a pretty good player as well – my uncle – but Ken Griffey (Jr.) had a great career," he said.
