A group of homeless people in Everett are responding after the area they live was labeled “Tweakerville” and a live stream was set up.
A camera went up last week on Smith Avenue and is aimed across the street to where people gather on a daily basis. The footage is being broadcast 24/7 on a YouTube channel called the “Everett Tweakerville Stream.”
Those who live at the camp say they have nowhere else to go and the camera does nothing to help them.
Some residents support the live stream.
“Any way to keep this community safer, the more cameras the better, as far as I’m concerned,” one supporter said.
Over the weekend, a mother and her daughter gave out water to those who live at the camp during the heat wave. She says the live stream is degrading.
“These people don’t need to be degraded any further,” she told KIRO 7. “They’ve had enough difficulty in life. It’s insulting. Hopefully, it would raise awareness, make people a bit more compassionate.”
A man who identified himself as Billy asked: How is that going to help us?
“They cannot just watch us, every single day, for as long as we live out here, just because we have nowhere else to go.”
